Auburn University is a public-land grant research institution located in Auburn, Alabama. The university was established in 1856 as one of Alabama’s two flagship public universities and is currently the second-largest in Alabama.

The institution was chartered in 1856 as East Alabama Male College and was affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, as a private liberal arts school.
