Fairleigh Dickinson University, or simply Fairleigh University, is a private university in Madison, New Jersey. The University was founded in 1942 and is the largest private higher education institution in New Jersey.

The University was initially Fairleigh Dickinson Junior College when it started in 1942, named after Colonel Fairleigh S Dickson, the co-founder of Becton Dickinson and an early benefactor of Peter Sammartino and his wife, Sally.

In 1948, the school received accreditation from the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. In 1956 the New Jersey State Board of Education recognized the institution, which was formerly Fairleigh Dickinson College, as Fairleigh Dickinson University. It is a member of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.

This University has a suburban setting with a campus size spanning 266 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. Fairleigh University ranked 63rd in the 2022-2023 edition of Best National Universities by U.S. News. Tulane University has over 100 majors and minors in nine schools, including science, architecture, business, and public health.

Fairleigh University has two campuses in New Jersey, a campus in Vancouver, British Columbia; one in Wroxton, Oxfordshire, the United Kingdom; and all an online platform. Its main Florham Campus is located in the suburban towns of Madison and Florham Park, in New Jersey; this is cited on the grounds of the former Florham estate of Hamilton McKown Twombly and his wife, Florence Adele Vanderbilt Twombly, who are members of the wealthy Vanderbilt family.

The Metropolitan Campus is close to New York City and spans the Hackensack River in Teaneck and Hackensack, New Jersey. It is more focused on business and professional majors compared to the Florham Campus.

FDU’s Vancouver Campus was opened in 2007 and is located at 842 Cambie Street and 89 West Georgia Street, Vancouver, in British Columbia.

FDU Wroxton College is located in Wroxton, Oxfordshire, in Southeastern England. When Fairleigh Dickinson University bought Wroxton Abbey in 1965, the school became the first American University to own and operate a separate campus outside the United States.
