Texas has over 170 universities and colleges and many of these are nationally renowned so there are a lot of options to choose from whether you want to attend in person, an online program or some have the option of a hybrid program. We decided to help narrow them down so that you can make your choice a little faster, our judgment was based on the student’s outcome mostly.
The University of Texas
This is located at Austin. was ranked 52 out of over 2000 schools nationwide. It has an acceptance rate of 32%, it is one of the biggest schools on this list but still maintains a faculty ratio of 7:1 which allows students get all the attention they need to excel in their school work. It has the option of Bachelor, Masters or Doctorate degrees for their music students . The tuition is about 55000 dollars but their are financial aid available in the school. The students are given opportunities to showcase themselves with solo recitals in ensembles nationally and outside the nation. It has a world class faculty, scholars and performers they have received several awards from prestigious foundations and organisations.
Rice University
This is located in Houston, it is a private institution and one of the most selective on the list. It is the 5th most popular college in texas, it was ranked 25 out of over 2000 schools nationwide but was ranked 2 in Texas. It offers a Bachelor’s, Masters and Doctorate degree in music. It has an acceptance rate of 12% and faculty ratio of about 6:1 for more attention to its students. Many of its Alumni have gone on to win Grammys and Pulitzer prizes and many of its faculty members are famous as elite performers in orchestras.
University of Houston
This is located in Houston, is a public institute and has a large number of students. It has a faculty ratio of 20:1 and 65% acceptance rate. It offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees in music. Nationally, it was ranked at 328 but was ranked 1 by college factual in 2021 on best music schools in Texas. Their students gain professional experience by joining stellar ensembles for their performance. It prides itself on the diversity of its students.
University of North Texas School of Music
It is located in Denton, it is a public institution with a good number of students. It has an acceptance rate of 74% and a faculty ratio of 22:1. It offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees in music. Most accomplished musicians have their roots in this College. Its popularity is due to its Jazz program headed by One O’Clock lab band, they have Grammys under their belt.
Texas Christian University
This is located in Fort Worth, it is a private institution with a good number of students. It was ranked 117 out of over 2000 Colleges nationwide. It provides students with the necessary skills to thrive and its graduates have 90% job placement all year round. Its students have varying choice of studies to pick from and their internship program has been recognized nationally as a good place to learn.
Texas Tech University School of Music
This is located in Lubbock which is home to a vibrant art scene and tourism. It is a public institution with a large number of students and the third most popular school in Texas. it has an acceptance rate of 69% and offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees. It has a high job placement rate for its graduates with high pay rates too. It boasts itself as Texas most prominent instrument collection. They have state of the art facilities and a huge reference library of over 13000 recordings and music.
Southern Methodist University
This is located in Dallas. It is a private institution with a good number of students. It has a superb faculty and its Alumni list of accomplishments are ever increasing. It has an acceptance rate of 47% and faculty ratio of 16:1. It is the 10th most popular College in the state and has a ranking of 133 nationally. They offer Bachelor’s degree and it has options for the students to choose from either the Music Education or Music Therapy.
Texas State University School of Music (San Marcos, TX)
It is located in San Marco. It ranked 498 nationally but its the 6th most popular College in Texas. It provides a nurturing environment for students to polish their skills while being immersed in their love for music. Classes are held in state of the art facilities and students are shown the way to blend in to the profession after graduation. It has a faculty with world class recognition, has some popular members of staff who have played for celebrities. Their motto “Somos Músicos,” which means “we are musicians” when translated to English is a driving force to their dedication to seeing music become the best choice their students could have made.
Baylor University
This is Located in Waco. This is a private institution and has a large number of students. It offers only a Bachelor’s degree. It has an acceptance rate of 45% and its scholarship program is top notch. They have a dynamic faculty and its students have gone on to make waves on Broadway and internationally acclaimed orchestras. Its classes are small for a more intensive learning for its students.
The University of Texas at San Antonio
This located at San Antonio. It a public school and has a great number is students. It was ranked 42 out of over 100 Colleges in the state, it has the 11th most popular College in Texas. They offer only a Bachelor’s degree in music.
