Boston University is a private research institute in Boston, Massachusetts. The University was established in 1839 by a group of Boston Methodists, locating its first campus in Newbury, Vermont before it was chartered to Boston in 1869.

Getting into Boston University is usually highly competitive, considering the school’s high prestige and large alumni network. Meeting their ACt/SAT requirements is very important to get past the first round of academic screening and proves how badly you want in.

As of 2023, Boston University Acceptance Rate is 18.6%. This clearly shows that you need to really put in the work if you want to have a clear shot at getting into the school as Boston is extremely selective.

To have a good chance at admission, you should aim for the 75 percentile, with a 1360 SAT score or a 31 ACT. You should also have a 3.7 or higher GPA. Boston University also admits 75 per cent of its freshmen for early applications. This gives students a better chance at securing a spot. The school offers two rounds of early decision admission; EDI and EDII, whose deadlines are the first week of November and the Second week of January respectively.

Boston University can be very tough to Crack and is defiantly not for the faint of heart. With an 18.6% acceptance rate, it ranks among the lowest in the state. The University places very high standards and requirements for its applicants, admitting mostly from the top 10 per cent. Boston University naturally attracts B+ students who mostly finish in the top quarter of their high school classes.

ACT Score Requirement 

Admission data shows that Boston University naturally admits students with ACT scores above 30. It also shows that successful applicants usually fall within the top 11 per cent nationally. Although it sometimes accepts students below scoring 29, only that they would be placed in the lower acceptance half, while those with scores between 31 and 34 would be in the upper acceptance half.

SAT Score Requirement

It is only normal that such a school as Boston University prefers students to be in the top 11 per cent of SAT takers. The school usually takes the Requirement down to 1360 out of 1600 scale for admission consideration. The school released it SAT score requirement to be within the range of 1360 and 1520.

Curriculum Requirements 

  • Candidates should have a strong high school academic and extracurricular activities record, with 18 or more courses taken across four years. For US residents, we suggest that your high school record consists of the following;
  • English 4 years with extensive work in reading and writing
  • Mathematics 3 years
  • Sciences 3 years of laboratory science
  • Social studies 3 years
  • Foreign language at least 2 years of a preferred language.

The University’s main campus is located in Boston, Massachusetts popularly known as the Charles River campus. It stretches across Commonwealth Avenue and the Green line starting near Kenmore Square and continuing for over a mile and a half ending at the Allston neighbourhood.

The university Bridge crosses over the Charles River into Cambridge, representing the dividing line between the university’s main campus where most of the school’s buildings and classrooms are and its West campus which is home to most sporting facilities and playing field.

In 2018, the university acquired the former Wheelock College which now serves as its third campus. Although it is located in Longwood, it is popularly referred to as Boston University Fenway Campus.
