NSLI-Y Scholarship Program

The National Science and Language Initiative for Youth NSLI-Y program is a unique initiative designed to provide students with the opportunity to learn a foreign language and immerse themselves in the culture of a different country while pursuing their education.

The NSLI-Y scholarship, offers selected students the chance to study in various countries for a year and gain invaluable insights into Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Persian (Tajiki), Russian, Turkish language, culture, and history.

Students are required to study these languages intensively for the duration of their stay in the target country, with instruction provided by experienced language teachers. Who is Eligible?

To be eligible for NSLI-Y applicants must:

  1. Be U.S. citizen at the time of application.
  2. Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent.
  3. Be 15-18 years of age at start of the program.
  4. Be enrolled in grades 9-12 (high school or home school equivalent) at the time of application.
  5. Not be in either of the two ineligibility categories described below.
