Oglala Lakota College (OLC) is a tribal college located in Kyle, South Dakota, on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. It was founded in 1971 and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The college serves primarily the residents of the Oglala Lakota Nation and provides education and training for students of all ages, from pre-college to graduate school.
Oglala Lakota College offers a variety of associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and certificate programs. The college has six academic departments: Lakota Studies, Business, Education, Math and Science, Social Science and Humanities, and Health and Wellness. Students can also take courses online through OLC’s distance learning program.
Oglala Lakota College has commitment to promote Lakota language and culture through the Lakota Studies department which offers courses in Lakota language and culture, and the college hosts an annual Lakota Language Summit.
Oglala Lakota College has also established a Lakota Language Institute, which provides training and resources for those interested in teaching or learning Lakota.
The college operates a number of outreach programs, including the Lakota Leadership Institute, which provides leadership training for community members, and the OLC Community Education program, which offers workshops and classes on a variety of topics.
Oglala Lakota College offers a variety of student services, including tutoring, counseling, and career services.
